Fall/Winter 2017 is Josie Short’s season. I can bloody feel it. We haven’t quite dipped into the sweater and boot dream-worthy weather that basic bitch wet dreams are made of… at least not in Indiana, but it’s coming, I can feel it. Just you wait…
I’ve never been a person who has worn color on my lips. Pretty much, nudes and pinky-nudes were taking over my lips with an extra side of boring and safety. And I don’t know why because my lips are actually decently full… I mean, I’m no Kylie Jenner post lip work, but I def look better than pre-pubescent Kiley Jenner.
Maybe it was a confidence thing, maybe it was a laziness thing, regardless, I’ve seemed to come into my own lately and have felt more confident than ever. I guess that’s what happen when you’re almost 30 and just don’t give a shit about what other people think about you.
Within the past year, I’ve stepped out of my box and I’m embracing dark colors on my lips. And whattaya know? I’m fucking digging it.
Now, when I make my way to Ulta I’m pretty much zoning in on anything and everything lip. I find a color I love and then I’m obsessed with finding more colors I love that are the same brand and product. While this little habit is super fun, it’s also leaving my bank account all like, hey man… should we uh… maybe buy some food or groceries instead?
I did a little research (if you consider Pinterest and other people’s opinions research) and found a line of lipsticks that are v v affordable and actually, have some decent staying power and a good color selection.
Enter, Wet n Wild MegaLast Lipstick.
These little babies are at any store pretty much (Target, CVS, Walgreens)… I snagged mine at Walmart because, Small Town, Indiana. I only chose three colors to start with. They are less than $2 but still, why waste money on well… anything. The colors I bought are Cherry Bomb, Cinnamon Spice and Wine Room. The lasting power is pretty good. It’s no Lipsense but it doesn’t wear off super quick… it’s advertised to last 4 hours. The semi-matte cream finish is nice. Only thing I’m not super crazy about is the actual shape of the lipstick. It can be a bit difficult to apply around the cupid’s bow. Easily fixed though… lip liner, which I tend to use with most dark lip colors anyway.

Cherry Bomb, on my lips, wears more of a darker burgundy or deep wine than a cherry. I feel like cherry seems to suggest a bright red. While this shade is red, it is definitely not bright. I’m fairly pale, so this color really seems to be like 90s vampy dark on me. But, whatevs. I dig it.
Cinnamon Spice is a really pretty red that is dark enough for fall but not blood-sucking vampy dark. As you can imagine, it’s a warm red tone.
Wine Room is perfect if you crave more of a dark pink shade. If reds or dark plum/burgundy shades ain’t yo thing, this one might be.
I’ve got my eye on shades Sugar Plum Fairy, Ravin’ Raisin and Spiked With Rum. They look babin’ and I will get my hands on them.
What other budget lip products should I be trying??
